Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge

_____________________

A 25 mile circular challenge walk, the Three Peaks of Yorkshire normally starts and finishes at Horton-in-Ribblesdale, visiting the three highest peaks in Yorkshire - Pen-y-ghent (691m), Whernside (728m), and Ingleborough (723m) - in that order. The total distance may vary slightly, as there are a few minor route options, but for most the walk will be just under 25 miles, visiting Ribblehead and Chepel-Le-Dale.

Although walkers will often not be too far from civilisation, this long walk is still demanding, and is not a waymarked route. Map and compass skills will be required, especially when navigating over the Moss, and on the summits if visibility is poor. The total climb is some 5,200 feet, and the footpaths can be very wet and boggy in some places, rugged and rocky in others. Some sections are on fast country roads.

This walking challenge makes excellent training for bigger and longer challenges, such as the national Three Peaks of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon.

You should plan your route, organise accommodation, and ensure you have the correct walking and emergency equipment and clothing for the open Yorkshire Dales.
General Information
_____________________

The Yorkshire 3 Peaks makes an ideal route first for those who wish to start tackling challenge and long distance routes.

Ribblehead and Chapel-Le-Dale both have public houses, where you can get hot food and drinks, or even order a taxi home if injured or you wish to retire. You are never very far from a road, whilst still feeling remote.

This is the ideal challenge to make a great weekend of - arrive Friday, stay in a B&B or camp, tackle the peaks from early Saturday morning, then enjoy a few pints afterwards before returning to B&B or tent, travel home Sunday.
