Freelance Outdoor Instructor, Mountain Leader and PCV Driver employment.
Job Opportunities at Merseyventure.

About Us.

Merseyventure provides a large range of support services to clients wishing to take part in a number of UK based challenge activities, the main activity being the UK Three Peaks Challenge over a 24 hour period, and Merseyventure events generally take place from April to October.

A&R Travel provides logistic support for Merseyventure events, and also provides transport services to a number local clients all year round. A&R Travel has a number of vehicles ranging from 8 seater minibuses to 17 seater minicoaches, and also provides luxury chauffeur services.

During the course of each year, we rotate a list of freelance (self employed) staff to assist with our events. Some of our events are very demanding, and we will normally only employ a mountain leader or event driver for a maximum of two events in one month.

Full events will last a weekend, with collection from Liverpool by midday Friday, and return to Liverpool on Sunday evening. We do not pay any expenses for your travel to/from Liverpool.

During an event, we will pay all of you expenses for any main meals and accommodation, which will vary from camping to 4* hotel, depending upon the client. You must provide your own equipment.

Our rates of pay are generous, and we will normally make payment to you by means of a cheque, at the end of any event.

About You.

We are always looking for honest, reliable, flexible, hard working, freelance staff to add to our books. We are interested in freelance mountain leaders, with at least ML Summer Assessed MLTE qualification, and freelance drivers with PCV driving license suitable for minibuses.

Mountain Leaders must have a proven track record of working with adult groups. and at least two references, must be fit enough for a 24 hour challenge, and should have excellent communication skills, and should be confident addressing groups of up to 50 people with event safety, weather, equipment or route briefings.

Mountain Leaders will be expected to be familiar with the Three Peaks Challenge, the various routes, estimated timings, locations and mountains, ecological and environmental concerns, and also conversant with the Institute Of Fundraising Voluntary Code for Three Peaks Challenge events, and confident about challenging any unacceptable behaviour by groups or individuals under their charge.

Drivers will need to be over 25 years of age to comply with our insurance, and should have a proven history of public transport. Our drivers will also act as support teams, and should be prepared to assist with cooking, tidying up vehicles, staffing safety radios and passing messages, giving mountain leaders ETA updates, etc.

During challenges, drivers may need to sleep in vehicles, drive through the night, drive when other group members are having celebratory drinks, sort out parking arrangements, safely deal with any vehicle malfunction or breakdowns, and have the ability to change or alter routes to bypass road accidents or other unforseen incidents. An interest in outdoor activities or hiking would be an advantage.
How good is your night mountain navigation?

Do you work well with older groups?

Can you drive at the legal limit when 12 people want you to speed?

Mountain leaders and guides, support staff, marshals and drivers will be required to work in poor weather conditions, stay in situ for hours on end, staff checkpoints at 3am,  help cook a breakfast at 6am after little rest, sleep in the back of a minibus, and everytime you see a client - you must be encouraging and look happy..!

The benefits are great pay, interesting and rewarding work, and the chance to be part of a great team..!

You may even get to feature on TV

:-)
