Three Peaks Challenge
History & Archives
Welcome..!

We are trying to publish an archive of all Three Peaks Challenge attempts - prior to those recorded on the internet. This website will include evidence from newspaper articles, magazines, and personal accounts with images. Attempts recorded in 'real time' on the internet will not be included, but other historical features published on the web are welcome.

For those that may not know, the National Three Peaks Challenge is:

"...to climb, and travel between, the highest mountains of Scotland, England and Wales"

That is Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mount Snowdon, some 10,000' of climbing, 25 miles of walking, and around 460 miles of driving - normally within 24 hours.
work very much in progress - contact richie@merseyventure.com if you have any material you would like archived here - pre-internet items only please..!
Triumph in the Three Peaks - 1956

This challenge has become hugely popular with both small, private groups and huge charity fundraising event organisers. We are trying go back to the founders of this challenge, and compare their challenges, with limited equipment, vehicles, road network and support to todays events which have the luxury of motorways, sat nav, Goretex, bridges (instead of ferries) and vehicles that do not require refuelling every 200 miles...
Harold and Trevor return from Scafell Pike to get ready for the drive to Snowdon
Forth Bridge in the background. Not needed in todays challenges
In the days before the Glen Nevis Visitor Centre... and you guys complain the toilets are closed...!
